Annual Back To School Event

Every year in August SCC coordinates a huge event to prepare the families we work with for the following school year. At this event, children are given two new outfits, shoes, backpacks filled with school supplies, and have access to personal supplies to support the family. In addition support groups such as the Onondaga County Health Department

Sisters of St Francis organize back-to-school supplies for
families supported by Mothers & Children in Crisis

This year, we delivered the donations from Holy Cross, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Community, and a few other supporters. Through our combined efforts we were able to help 82 children from 32 families prepare for the school year. In addition to the school supplies and backpacks, each child received new sneakers, new clothing including socks, underwear, and a new outfit. The families received educational material from the Onondaga County Health Department, some personal care items, and a gift card to purchase groceries.
No residential treatment center in Onondaga County allows single women to bring their children to the treatment facility. The closest one is 100 miles away. Without a residential treatment center in Onondaga County, mothers are forced to place children in an overburdened foster care system or with a family member.
